1. Reading
- This summer, we would like students to continue working on their IXL accounts.
- Kindergarten/First Grade students should also play on abcya.com, Funbrain, and continue using their Teach Your Monster How to Read accounts.

Middle/Upper School Students Summer Work
1. Summer Reading and Responses
Incoming Middle School Students - Please read the following guidelines on improving in reading and writing and continue doing your IXL. You should do 1 hour per week (8 hours total for the summer) of IXL.
Incoming High School Students: Please read one novel and complete any three assignments below. Please keep track of the activities because you will need to turn them in.
NOTE: Anything you type must be done in 12-point Times New Roman font.
1. Summarize the novel in poem form (minimum 20 lines).
2. Discuss in depth the relevance of the title to the rest of the novel (one page).
3. Write a letter to the author.
4. Use two sources (other than the book) to research and write a one to two-page report on an issue from the book.
5. Write a one minute audio advertisement persuading the public why they should buy and read the novel.
6. Pretend you’re interviewing a person from the book. Write your interview in question and answer format.
7. Design a timeline for events in the book.
8. As a literary agent, write a letter to the publishing company designed to persuade them to publish the novel.
9. Top 10 List - list ten things you learned from the novel.
10. Create a glossary of unfamiliar words and phrases.
11. Choose your favorite passage from the book. Copy it down and discuss what you found appealing.
12. Write a front page news story or a report live from the scene (a scene from your novel).
13. Create a test! Create a combination of multiple choice, true/false, and short answers.
14. Journal as you go - As you’re reading the book, keep a two-sided journal. The left side should have quotes from the book and page numbers. The right side should have your questions, thoughts, observations, revelations, etc.
