Why Madina Academy Upper School?

The year 2011 marked the inauguration of the Madina Academy Upper School. We recognized that just as there is a need for an elementary and middle school, a high school is equally necessary for our community. Thus, the Academy has established a university preparatory upper school. What makes our school unique is that it provides a dual enrollment program for grades 11 and 12. Students entering grades 9 and 10 are provided instruction on campus in all subject areas. Upon entering grade 11 and 12, students take all their core subjects at local community colleges and universities and take their electives (Religious Studies, Gym, Arabic as a Second Language, etc.) at the Academy Campus.
In addition, our students take Tajweed classes every year. We offer our students Honor classes in English, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Biology, Chemistry and U.S. History. We also offer them several electives such Computer Science, Art, Personal Finance, Public Speaking, and Time Management. Starting from grade 9, we also start preparing our students for the SAT exam by offering them SAT classes in both Math and English.
Besides academics, Madina Academy provides its students with several opportunities to help them become competitive when it comes time to apply to college. All students are allowed to participate in the Connecticut State Science and Engineering Fair, and every year our students come back with several awards. Students in upper school are also required to participate in 50 hours of community service throughout their upper school years. Madina Academy's Student Council provides students a way to develop their leadership skills. Students are also given opportunities to write articles in the school newsletter, give khutbas (for boys), give speeches on special occasions, prepare fundraising and social events and tutor their younger peers. Through all these activities, our students graduate ready to succeed in the real world.

Advantages of a Dual Enrollment

  • Students earn college credits that save valuable time and money in the future.
  • Students become highly competitive college applicants
  • Excellent study habits and self-discipline is developed
  • The transition from high school graduation to college is less stressful
